My Favorite Festival

Saturday was Street Music Day in Vilnius (and in Kaunas, although I was in Vilnius this weekend).  Of all the spring and summer festivals, this is my favorite.  In addition to the twenty official stages, there are musicians of all ages and proficiency levels on every street corner and doorway in the center of Vilnius.   Everything from the Lithuanian Army Band playing swing music on Gedimino Street to teenagers playing Deep Purple’s “Smoke on the Water” on Vilniaus Street to an elderly man playing the accordion — and that was just in the first 30 minutes that I was walking around town.
