Endless Battles

There are some winter battles that are endlessly waged, even though you know they won’t be won until winter ends.

  • My neighbor in Kaunas shoveling the walkway from his house to the street and the sidewalk in front of his house after every snowfall.
  • City employees clearing streets and sidewalks of snow and laying down sand and ice.
  • Janitorial staff, sales clerks and even baristas cleaning the floor of slush, snow, ice and dirt tracked in by customers.
  • My attempts to style my hair in a way that doesn’t just end up in “hat hair” after wearing my wool cap.
